Anyone know hammersmith?

Hi can anyone help with advice on buying or renting in Hammersmith?
Is it a good area?
How much would it cost to either buy or rent a 1bed flat in this area?
I need to be close to Hammersmith hospital and have no idea what the area is like.
For capital growth would it be a good investment to buy hoping to move on in say 5years or do I rent. If renting how much are rents as I am loath to spend more on renting than a mortage.
Please can anyone tell me more about the area ie shops, parks, etc

Hammersmith Hospital isn't in Hammersmith

Yep I know but tube not far and i also need to get to St Mary's for some clinics.
Others on my course recommended Hammersmith but I dont know anything about the area.
Any tips gratefully received!

Hammersmith/shepherds bush area recommended as my course is with Imperial Collage.

Hammersmith Hospital is actually in Acton, you'll get far more for your money, and Paddington is very accessible by tube. (Isn't Imperial College actually in Hammersmith hospital?)

How may beds do you want?
Flat or house?
Acton is not so nice although there are some nice family homes towards Chiswick end
Hammersmith is quite nice. Down the fulham palace road away from Charing cross hospital is nicer. (towards fulham)

So you are mostly based at hammersmith hosp but occasionally at Marys?

Are you a med student or doctor?

Have a look at Harlesden/Kensal Green easy to get to both hospitals by bus or tube - avoid the stonebridge end of harlesden

I have seen a flat today in Brook Green, seems to have a good cafe culture! Within walking distance of two tube stations.
Also one in Shepherds Bush very close to football ground!
Don't get much space for £250,000 so just wondering if these are safe areas to live in ie coming home from late shifts and walking home alone from tube.

Hammersmith Hosp on central line (East Acton) or (White City). TBH du cane road and wormwood scrubs not the most lovely places in the middle of the night - not roaming gangs but quiet/deserted.

Brook Green quite nice but you wont get a great deal of bang for your buck there. If space is important, Razors suggestion of Kensal Green is good. Used to be rough but now more gentrified but still not as £££ as hammersmith.

Have a good walk around if you are considering the one by the football grounds. Some nice-ish streets then you turn a corner and you're in the middle of white city estate (less dodge than it used to be but still rough elements) and it will also mean you using the, frankly scary, wired in pedestrian bridge from the hospital over the A40. If you don't mind being a bit further out you could go to Ealing on the central line. More family/residential type housing.

If you can afford it, and it appeals, Chiswick is lovely and is kind of like a village in the middle of London. Great shops and eateries but with a local feel (as opposed to Hammersmith with is very high street shop heavy).

Having been to both hammersmith for dh treatment and st marys for my heart, I would rather live near the hammersmith. Areas seem nicer, good community and massive shopping centre. Near st marys looked very run down
