I know this is zombie, but moving here soon and looking for advice on areas to live.

What is Cargo like? Some lovely houses there, but is that it? Are buses good or easy cycle into town?

What primary schools are good too? ESP if we did end up in cargo?

Thank you

Hi, have just seen this discussion and found it very helpful so far. We're going to be moving to Carlisle from Kent next year( in time for our son to start school) and was just after some more up to date advise. We holiday in Cumbria every year and love Dalston and the surrounding villages but they're out of our price range. We have seen some great houses in Carlisle itself though. Without wanting to offend anyone on here, where are the areas to avoid in terms of 'rough areas'? Having said that though, we currently live in a text book 'rough area' and have never had any trouble from anyone. My partner's 14 year old daughter moved to Carlisle ( near Pirellis) 4 years ago and loves her new life 'up north' and after visiting often would love for our son to be brought up in the North and also see partner's daughter more often. Also, where was Carlisle most badly flooded in December? Thank,

If anyone is wondering now. The Mexican next to the station closed a few years ago. I knew the owner and he passed.

For any info here is some. I was born in cumbria and have always had a house here. I have a house on carelton gardens. Have one in Brampton and one in Wetheral. Although i spend my time in other places like the house in London and the US. I reccomend carelton gardens is the best choice I only spent around 900,000 for my house and it was very good for the price. For primary I reccomend Austin friars and for secondary the grammar school in Penrith called Queen Elizabeth grammar school. Most other schools including the other private ones do have a drug problem.

This is a zombie thread.
Also are you sure you spend £900,000 ? Not sure I've seen properties in that area just £100,000 short of 1 million.

I think I must have been very unlucky when I moved to Carlisle 20 years ago I hated it. Found the locals unfriendly and clannish, the town centre was very rough at night and students at the nearby campus were warned not to venture there at night following a number of attacks.Only lasted 12 months. Admittedly we didn’t live in the leafy areas though. Hopefully it has improved.
