Any cost saving tips for doing up my kitchen please????

Have to replace kitchen including appliances, and flooring and utility room. Its a very big long kitchen and we estimate we will need a total of 20 cupboards! Panicking about the cost.

Does anyone have any tips on how we can reduce costs of cupboards/applicances/flooring. Anything you have done that has worked well? All ideas welcome!!

No direct experience but... how about an ex-display kitchen? Might be worth a shot, they are sometimes in odd configurations.

I just re-did my kitchen with Ikea. I went to Lowes and was quoted $14000 for the cabinets only. Went to Ikea bought the high gloss cabinets(most expensive) all new appliances(refrigerator, dishwasher, stovetop , oven and microwave) all for about $8000(had a 20% discount)- including the white Compac countertop.
You can plug your dimensions on the 3d program they have and get your"shopping list" with price. The are having the same 20% up to Nov 27...I have a second kitchen to do and I am taking advantege of it.

They will deliver, but you have to insall it yourself or get someone or them to do it. My husband is super handy and it was perfect, but it took him a week.

Oooh, thanks for tip off about Ikea discount, will take a look.

Top tip - use Ebay. Buy the units that you need, then get cooker, hob, sink, taps, doorknobs, extractor, lights, flooring, worktops, etc on Ebay for far better prices. Get an independent kitchen fitter (who has been recommended) to fit it rather than using the one from where you buy your units. I saved SO much doing it this way, and got far better quality fittings, all new.

Also, do you need 20 cupboards just to fill the space? Couldn't you plan your layout better, and maybe have a dining area, or a freestanding dresser or cupboard or something instead of buying fitted units for the whole area? Plan what cupboards and drawers and worktop space you need, then work out where you DON'T need cupboards too.

Mmmm, have been looking at reducing number of units, seems like a good idea. Will check ebay for appliances.

Anyone got cool ideas where to get cheap but decent worktops as they seem to be one of the biggest expenses at the mo.

We are pondering stainless steel worktops as they seem to be reasonable prices onlinem and quite a cool look - with a coloured glass splashback to lift it.

Yeah, I was thinking of that for my utility area.

Firstly stainless steel work surface sounds like a nightmare - forever need cleaning (or look smeary) and prone to dents, knocks etc.
Second, tips for cheaper kitchen: go for just base units and have open shelving above -Looks great, far cheaper and great for maximising sense of space; buy used or at least reconditioned appliances; source taps, sink etc on eBay,
