I need help; think ORANGE, sort of poster paint orange. What colours can I use to tone it down?

DD wants an orange bedroom

I am a little concerned; so far we have agreed a feature wall of orange with cream curtains on that wall. But what colour for the other 3 walls?

She has some pine & some white furniture

Pale / dove grey? trail bit of feature wall colour onto the next wall, eg some swirly trails of orange paint making a swirly trail...

Don't be concerned! Relax into it and paint the skirting boards and woodwork pink or red.

She doesn't need good taste, she could have cool and confident instead. Feature walls are very over anyway so it's no bad thing. What kind of orange?

Grey sounds good & I like swirls

Very 'in your face' orange I think & it's a small room

You know the pattens / cut outs on the front of piza express boxes from le supermarche? I'm thinking them sort of swirls going onto one of the grey walls, about 2 or 3 foot high at most so the colour leads nicely to the calmer wall?

Plus, good on your dd, i had a dark purple bedroom (ceiling as well!) when i was at school and i absolutely loved it

Mid grey accents/soft furnishings, plus white - bedlinen, cushions, white woodwork. Rich deep Navy blue also good alternative to grey.

I'd paint other walls white but do very bright accessories - turquoise and lime green look great with that tangerine-y orange.

How old is your DD? There's no way I'd put grey in a child's bedroom.

She is 13 & about to 'de-clutter' as I'm not a child any more

Agree with LaLa. Citrus fruit colours kept sane with lots of pure white. Think it will look like quite a nice lunch-time eatery. Go to Giraffe for inspiration.

Aha we found a fabric from Ikea

We are having white/cream/parchment bedding with a panel of fabric on
Fabric curtains or cream curtains with fabric tie backs
Feature wall behind the bed
White/cream/parchment walls

Cream or off-white as a background to a very patterned fabric won't make much odds but on three walls in a small room with an orange wall, it could well end up looking a more custard shade.
