Which wall to knock down?!

We are (hopefully) on the cusp of moving to a Victorian semi. Downstairs there are four rooms; kitchen and day room(?) at the back, sitting room and dining room at the front. The front door is at the side of the house.

Next door have knocked together their two front rooms, but I've yet to invite myself in for a nosy .

None of the rooms are massive and I think it would be nice to have a bigger single space downstairs, so I'm wondering - which two rooms would be best knocked together?

Any thoughts/experiences?

Definitely knock the kitchen and day room into one big kitchen diner. Everyone these days likes a big kitchen diner, and for family living they're unbeatable. This was exactly our set up in our old house. I also like having a seperate front room/dining room or playroom, but that's just personal preference. By the way, what's to stop you knocking two walls down, so make the front room and dining room into one, and then make the other two into a kitchen diner?

If you make a kitchen diner & 2 living rooms it makes it easier not to watch tv with a housefull of visiting teens.

Depends if you have to walk through any rooms to get through to others. I'd think a bigger kitchen would be better (what is a day room?) but if a room is only accessible through another one, that's probably a good candidate for a knock-through too.

Well, I was wondering about knocking both down, I just didn't know if I was getting a bit 'demolition-happy'

The visiting teens issue is a little way off, but we do have a 22mo and another on the way, so I was considering the necessity of shutting doors on mess/toys/noise...

lala - I have NO idea what a day room is! The current owners seem to use it to watch tv and eat 'casual meals'??? All the rooms have their own access from the hall.

The basement is converted so that will eventually be a playroom I expect.

Basement would be a good den option too.
Depends how big the rooms are. I like cosy room in the evening for tv watching and eating biscuits. We have a big room & I never feel cosy there
