Wallpaper - why is it all so ghastly at the moment?

I want some wallpaper suitable for a small darkish bedroom.All there is in the shop is huge great 1950s-stylee flowers in hideous colours.

Was hoping for a nice pale blue stripe of some sort but unless you want to pay £52 a roll in John Lewis it doesn't exist.

Gaah.
