Nicer, safer area or better transport? wwyd?

So I am torn between a house which is in a lovely area, great shops and cafes nearby but not so good in terms of transport links to work, versus a property which is in a slightly run down location but transport networks are great. Has anyone ever gone for the former but then regretted it because you have to wake up the extra 15 mins before etc etc.?

I would go with the former every time. Mind you my lot are always up no later than 0600.

15 mins? That's not much in the grand scheme of things. I'd go for the nicer place.

yes its probably not the extra 15 min but a more hassle prone journey with multiple changes and less frequent train services. Its a toss up between nicer area and enjoying the weekend versus having a miserable week..........

where are the areas? is there a compromise between the two eg on the edge of the great transport area but still not too far to walk to the nice shops and cafes?

chooberry · 22/08/2011 16:30

well probably a 20-25 min walk away. the one with good travel connections is close to a lot of takeaways and the likes, so not really great surroundings, but connections in to work wld be fantastic......

true - maybe we need to find a compromise area so we can enjoy best of both worlds - but haven't come across one so far :S

Are you likely to be working in the same place for a long time? would that mean your commute was easier from the nice location?

minipie · 22/08/2011 16:48

sorry, should say "if you are likely to move to a different job, would that mean..."

chooberry · 23/08/2011 08:50

good thinking, actually it wld still be better (even better) with the house in the not so nice area.
sigh.......
