please help with last minute wobble due to moving house

We are moving from town to village next week about 40 miles from our house of 15 years (gulp).

got the keys today and dh had a wobble about leaving friends, neighbours and our lovely-but-much-too-small house.

Now I'm wobbling majorly.

Mainly because I wanted to move. nicer area, nicer school and beautiful place.

We've had a chat and dh is happy to move deep down as you never know until you try it, blah, blah, blah and we could move back if we absolutely hate it . . .
Oh help! I'm massively freaking now. Is this normal? please tell me your experiences

Absolutely normal. DH and I both had a huge wobble the day we moved into a lovely much wanted flat and realised just how much work we needed to do. We spent about the first week in tears... then we fell in love with it. All fine and the move was really good. Good luck. You can always move back!

Part of our problem is that we are moving from a house that we did up lovingly to a rented house that is spacious but not old and quaint like our current house so we can't do anything to it. It's a stop gap until we know what we want to do. Actually I'm quite positive for the future but dh and ds are like old whelks that don't like to be ousted from their shells!

Mine's more of a first minute than a last minute wobble, as just about to put the house on the market to move from a house that I love but an area that I don't and a house that's actually too big for us to a smaller town not far away when I think I'll feel more at home. I veer from complete panic what am I doing leaving my current support systems, moving dd's school to thinking this is really exciting and I can't wait. I was speaking to a friend last night who said that before she moved from a very beautiful house to a house that was a wreck she also thought the same, but now she has moved, despite all sorts of problems with the new house she doesn't think about the old one. I think it's like that about leaving anything, in the last few weeks you tend to think "this is the last time I'll do ..." but then all those last times are over and you move onto something new. I think you speak very wise words Amaris. I'm going to look at your post whenever I feel wobbly.

The new house is a bit tired around the edges but I think it will look a lot better once we have all our own stuff in it.

i know what you mean about the two extremes of excitement/panic!

i am worried also that ds has got to find a whole network of friends too. He has loads where we are now.

The village is a reasonable size, so the must be children somewhere but it has been so quiet every time we go down there, I haven't actually seen anyone yet!

maybe it is inhabited by vampires who only come out at night
