clear acrylic panels in childrens bedroom to keep walls clean next to bed

ANyone done this? The problem is the bed is next to a long window and both boys climb over the bed and play toys on the sill which means grubby hands and feet get rubbed on the newly painted walls.

Ive seen you can get this plastic cut and edges rounded and smoothed pretty cheap. I'd want the length of the bed.

One idea was attaching somehow some photo collages on it to make it look different. I dont want gaps so flies or bits can be traped. New walls so nice and even.

Any ideas?

Bacon why can't you use washable paint?.Sorry if i'm stating the obvious!.

Acrylic panels would be ok, but I think you'd have to fix them to the wall with metal fixings which will spoil the new decor (and you'll need sealant round the edge to prevent flies etc which may also mess up the paint). So depends really whether you're trying to minimise damage to the paintwork.

How about putting up a long poster or a strip of wallpaper instead? You could frame it to look neater, and it would only need a tack or two to hold it up. (or even pins/blu tack if you don't frame it)

Photobox and other companies will blow up photos or pictures to panoramic posters - could look great.

I second using a washable paint on the walls.

Have to say I've looked at this too for the wall next to my back door in the kitchen - washable paint just isn't enough (I have the specialist paint and it still looks grubby). Have found a co called sheetplastics.co.uk but haven't used them but think that might be the think you're looking for.

Good point Teta - I have painted with the durable paint but how good is it and assume this is just part of having boys.

I didnt want too much expence or wall damage either. I used those self adhesive mirrors from Ikea and taking them off was a nightmare!

How about a "panel" of blackboard paint , easy to renew if it gets too mucky but should be washable! - B and Q do it in other colours besides black (you could let ds's chalk on it - great for developing handwriting skills or not tell them it is blackboard paint if you want to keep it clean!) - or a panel of oil based eggshell paint - If you do 3 coats it should provide a fairly good washable surface that is more durable than the most "washable" emulsions
