Would you always expect a sink in utility room?

Just that really: planning the utility, but lay-out is slightly awkward and not having a sink would free up lots of valueable space. We mostly want to use it for storage, washing machine, extra freezer and prefer to have closed units to keep it looking tidy as it will be main access route to the guest bathroom

As a bathroom will be right next to the utility I reckon we can do without a sink, but not sure whether it would be seen as strange. Any thoughts appreciated

No need for sink. Room for tumble dryer would be good - even if it's on top of washing machine.

I only have a sink in my utility becuase I have a loo in there too. As long as there is lots of storage etc I think no sink would be fine

Can i hijack slightly - would it be very odd/ risky to have bookshelves in a utility? Our new house has huge utility that used to be the kitchen, and we're planning on it being a kind of home office, where the washing machine/dryer happen to live, but not sure about practicalities!
Re sink, we're planning on keeping it, just because it would be useful for muddy shoes etc as the back door off the garden comes straight into the dining room, and there's no downstairs loo/sink otherwise.

No I could see shelves working, but are you actually storing books on them?

Hmm, we'd hoped to (mostly referen e books, there's not enough space for them in the living room, and we currently keep them in the spare room but that will be dd2's room) but I can see that it would possibly be a bad idea.
Time for a rethink!

A sink was an absolute must in my utility room, but mainly because I have a muddy football crazy DS, and I hated using the kitchen sink or the bath for things like washing clothes, painting stuff etc.

Washer dryer lives in DH's study, lots of books also two large computers on 24/7 so a bit of warmth and air flow. Still coldest room in the house, but no damp problem.

We don't have a sink in our utility room and it's fine. Whilst I'd like one in there it isn't a problem.

We have one, but dad doesn't. Doesn't seem odd not to at his, but we use ours a lot!

thanks all... I think we'll invest in an easy-clean bathroom floor & wash basin and forego the sink. Quite fancy the idea of wall to ceiling cupboards hiding all the stuff, so back to the drawing board now

We don't have a sink in our utility room. It's very small and there's just enough room for dishwasher and washing machine with a small cupboard between. I've never missed having a sink in there!
