How to measure room for laminate flooring?

How do we find out how much laminate flooring we need? It is for our dining room and it isn't quite square as there is a bit under the stairs. Also how much extra should we buy?

Measure the room without the bit under the stairs - so a 7x10m room would be 70sqm then measure under the stairs and add it on. Then add 10 percent for wastage. Most shops take back unopened packs so don't worry too much about buying too much
