Lambeth loft conversion - planning permission needed?

Hi, does anyone know whether its necessary to seek planning permission to carry out a loft conversion on a terraced house (not flats) which will build on the party wall? Or can we go ahead under permitted development - we've had conflicting advice from different builders.

Many thanks
Alex

Speak to your local authority planning dept and they will be able to advise - I am in Wandsworth and they have a service where you can drop by (preferably with photos or something) and they will give you advice. I'm sure Lambeth will have something similar.

Definitely ask the Planning Dept not the builder!

The easiest way to find out is on the government's website:

Planning Portal - Interactive House

Good luck.

I used to live in Lambeth. Our neighbour had to get permission for a loft conversion on a terraced house. He was refused and did it anyway Hmm
