cheap/free used bricks - North West?

Just wondering if anyone from the North West knows of anywhere that would be good to get cheap or even free used bricks?

I'm looking to put a low wall in the back garden to raise some planting beds, and our side wall is 100 years old (and therefore pretty weathered red brick) so I'd like it to match as best as possible. I've had a mooch online but can't find anything for cheaper than 50p per brick, and I'd like to spend a lot less than that (free would of course be even better!)

Have you tried the local tip? My husband was getting rid of some garden waste at the tip (we're in South Manchester) and there was quite a haul apparently of bricks there that someone had tipped - he asked if he could buy them and the guy working there told him to just help himself. He made a couple of raised beds from them in the back garden.
