Thickness of party wall (newbuild)

Just wondering what the recommended thickness is for a party wall (in a newbuild). Ours is 17cm - does that sound ok in terms of soundproofing etc?

In a nutshell, the quality of construction has a far greater bearing on sound reduction than the thickness of the wall.

It's a very complicated subject and one I disliked intensely at university.
