Home Insurance - help!

I think I might have made a massive cock up and somehow not renewed this year's home insurance. OR I might have paid it all in one go (I chop and change companies depending on the renewal).
Is there any way I can find out if i AM insured? (like with car insurance - there is some sort of central record of who is insured and who isn't??)

Ah - bugger. DH is going mad.

Usually, your existing company carries on your policy unless you cancel it. Can you check your bank statements to see if you've set up a direct debit?

There is definitely not a direct debit going out every month (but i think I thought there was - two going out to Tesco every month but they are for our two cars).
So if I did pay it, I paid the annual amount. Been checking bank statements but can't seem to find anything... How can I have done this?

It's easily rectified if you haven't though. Just have a call round. Unless of course you need to make a claim, and then I am afraid even if you took a policy out today they wouldn't pay out.

Yep - we do need to make a claim (escape of water). We have already rung round and told them straight and we won't be able to claim for at least four weeks (suppose fair enough).

Trouble is, I THINK I did pay for it (though as a one-off, NOT direct debit) but can't seem to find the paperwork.

What a pain NonnoMum! Could you phone your bank to see if they can trace a one off payment to an insurance company? Might be worth a shot.
