So does anyone actually use their extractor hood/fan?

Am planning new kitchen and hob placement proving difficult because the extractor needs to be on an outside wall. thing is the more I think about it, I never use the bloody thing. I usually open a window...Am I in a minority or what? Would love to know what other MNers do......thanks

bayeaux i thought i was the only person who did that... i keep recommending to people they put their crying baby in the carseat next to the extractor fan, and they look at me like i'm nuts...

Yep, use mine all the time. It's not on an outside wall, but the kitchen fitter connected it to a pipe going outside (runs along the top of the cupboards.

My friend has one which just filters & recycles the air and she says it is crap.

Haven't got one, hit fire alarm with wooden spoon and got in trouble with DH for breaking it (stupid thing didn't go off when there were flames shooting out of a piece of paper that had slid on to the cooker). Now have different much less twitchy fire alarm.
