Anyone had decking laid recently? If so how much did it cost

We want 2 areas of back garden decked, both about 15 ft by 10 ft

I ahve no idea if I'm talking £100's or £1000's, he says its about a 3 day job and I dont want any nasty surprises

I suspect you could be looking at a couple of £1000 unfortunately. Definitely worth getting a couple of quotes though, when we had ours done they varied enormously.
