Hallway flooring

Horrible carpet throughout ground floor needs replacing. Hallway currently carpet and its disgusting near the front door and near the garage door. Having oak engineered wook in two of the three downstairs rooms, probably will do the hallway in it too - I presume it will scratch badly, alot of traffic and we have a gravel drive although shoes are off at the door (although will not insist guests do so). Any other ideas? Concrete floors underneath so nothing cold.

Hall ways sadly are first point of entry so as you rightly say lots of traffic, we did wood then quickly had it tiled as wood scratched too easily, Eng wood is harder but will eventually scratch too. We do shoes off( guests too, but provide extra slippers for visitors) its getting more common now and only visitors of certain age grumble. I love my tiles, easy to clean, no scratching, we had a radiator in hall too so nice and warm. If you do wood invest in a nice good quality hall runner, which will help with dirt and scratches.
