Extortiant kitchen quote - rip Off?

A friend recommended a local kitchen co to me who quoted her c £3000 for her new kitchen :we are intersted in the same units and our kitchens are similar size though I have a small utilty area ajoining My quote came out at more than double hers ! Also they want 40% deposit ...

Have you asked them why its so much more?

Does she know the owner? Maybe she got an extra discount for something. A deposit if they have to manufacture the items is reasonable, but a bit sceptical at it coming out at double hers. Definitely query it and see what sort of response you get.

That is a fair point but I was too astonished to think of anything like that at the moment .... i reckoned it migh be a bit more as possibly a couple of extra cabs would bump it up a bit but not double! I think it may give me a starting point for negotiation: I have the impression that that is how this industry goes : but i am not keen on the 40% deposit, anyway and 25% seems the norm

Just choosing a kitchen with my builder and the Kitchen guy came over to measure up. My builder told him 'just give me your best price, none of this going backwards and forwards with different prices rubbish' - so yes, it does seem that the general rule is to haggle, and my builder wouldn't put up with it!!!!
