Shutters or blinds?

Hi
We've had someone round tonight to give us a quote for shutters in our lounge and bedroom but I'm not convinced. He said that the point isn't really to open them, rather just tilt the slats.
Do you like shutters or would you go for nice wooden venetian blinds?
Thanks

Shutters are a bit more modern than blinds, the trend changes so quickly. Personally i really like shutters, it's hard for blinds to completely "fit" and if you have a bay window look a bit odd.
plantation shutters are really smart and fold back too. He is right they are just to tilt unless you want to pull up blind or fold them back.

We viewed a house a few weeks ago with a selling point of Plantation Shutters in the lounge and main bedroom. I thought I'd like them but I didn't. It felt like a wall of lines and wood, made the rooms dark and prison like and they looked like they would take up heaps of wall space if folded back completely.

www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-33093068.html is the house- looks ok in the photos but in reality I wanted a view, more light and there was nothing horrible outside, just some trees and a cul de sac.

I think it depends what look you are going for. I have shutters in downstairs sitting room and upstairs bedroom myself and I love them. I think they just look a lot smarter than blinds.

I think the biggest benefit of them though is that if you have a quite a tall window (e.g. in a bay in a victorian house) you can have two rows of shutters. This means that you can keep the bottom set closed (albeit slanted open if you like) while having the top set either slanted completely open or pulled back to let more light in. Very good for privacy if you want light from the top but don't want people peering right in!

One of my neighbours also just has shutters on the bottom and this also works.
