We had someone round today. Wouldn't give us a price. Is coming back to give us a price which will be 20% less than the 4 week price she will give us and she will also give us a 2 year price. We are seeing 2 others next week. I didn't like the way she slagged off other companies and just wanted a price.

Have learnt the hard way!! Wink

purepurple · 14/05/2011 07:59

we have just had some new windows and doors fittted for £2600 and for that we got
kitchen window
bedroom window
landing window in patterned glass
large window replaced by french doors and 2 windows in toughened glass including window sills and replacing skirting boards

we used a local firm who make the windows themselves. There was no hard sell and they offered us 2 years interest free credit which we accepted. They also gave us a bottle of wine and box of chocolates for visiting the showroom and a £50 M&S voucher.
I say shop around and get lots of quotes.

My dad hs just had two windows replaced for £500. Small local company and May is a quiet time for them. Something to do with people having to come up with the balance of their holidays!

TheOriginalFAB · 14/05/2011 14:36

Thank you for all your very helpful tips. I will pass them on to DH and he can book for more people to come.

I recommend them.

That's such an old chestnut - "sign now, or you don't get the discount." Rubbish. I wouldn't buy from any salesman that spun me that line.

Just get a few quotes and go with who you feel most comfortable with.

FessaEst · 14/05/2011 22:12

We had most of our windows replaced for about £3k iirc - I can check. Certainly nothing like £25k. We went with a v small local firm, recommended by a friend. have since had them back to do a new front door, windows in our extension and new patio doors. He is popping round to fit restrictors for free now DD is of climbing age and inclination. I recommend hom to anyone. I just can't imagine you would get the same service froma big company.

TheOriginalFAB · 15/05/2011 09:28

Could you tell me the firm's name please FessaEst.

Thanks again to everyone for your recommendations.

I have a Help Sheet which might be of use to you. PM me if you want it.

Hi, thank you but we have made our decision now.

Apparently the company who wanted to charge us £25,000 went bust on Friday.

ShatnersBassoon · 17/05/2011 17:27

FAB, that £25k could have kept their heads above water. I hope you're ashamed of yourself Wink

Shock.
Dunno why Shock, kind of fits, really! //Cynical//
