EON are offering solar panels for £99. Is it too good to be true?

I have just filled in an application form for someone to come and see if we qualify for a new government scheme for solar panels. Has anyone else got these?
I am a bit excited as solar panels cost thousands normally.

I seem to be getting over-excited about solar panels Grin I am up for anything that will save us money.

There are worse things to be over-excited about

The thing here is that the eon scheme is a 'rent a roof' one. They supply and fit the panels, they take the benefits from the 'feed in tariffs' that the government are offering, you get some saving on your electricity (estimates vary but remember you can only use the solar panels when it is day time, so your electricity usage after dark will still need to be paid for). The thing that would make me uncomfortable is the commitment that you may need to make to give your roof to eon for whatever period they deem necessary - but I imagine will be years. So if you sell your house, it would be sold with that commitment passing to its future owner afaik. If I am honest, that would probably put me off buying a house, so it may be something to consider. On the other hand, the saving you could make on your bills is only likely to increase as electricity costs rise, and it's a very noble thing to do! Good luck

A local company wanted £16K to put 4kW panels on my south facing roof

I so wanted them; but no-one would end me any money as I childmind
