Nautical Theme for a Girl?

I'm about to move into a new rented house but have permission to paint (neutral) what will be DD's bedroom. It currently has a really blue carpet which I cant change. It's an old house and the room has deep skirtings, high ceilings and a chimney breast, but fireplace boxed in. It gets all the sun with a large window almost floor to ceiling.

DD isnt a girly girl, and she's only 2.5 so it needs to be young but not babyish. I'm wondering whether I can do her room either a blue and white country french feel or a girly nautical theme but I'm a bit lost for ideas. Google images keep throwing up a lot of teenager or very masculine looks.

Can anyone give me some ideas. She's got lots of white wooden furniture and now this blue carpet in a gorgeous sunny room which way should I go?

Personally i have completely fallen in love with wall stickers. You could try the white country french feel and add some of these?

or just try www.zazous.co.uk and click on the kids bedroom link.

i am not too sure how hard they are to get off. i would definitely ask before buying. also a bit concerned that dd will try to pick them off the wall (she loves stickers)

we have a dd of the same age with white furniture, so we are thinking of either papering one feature wall with a child's wallpaper in blue or red and then neutral walls or else these stickers. personally i love the child being carried away by the balloons.

nautical would be lovely. you could go more for the red/gingham style of things than the navy colours. a few dolphins/shells/mobiles or you could have a mermaid kind of thing going on...or you could think desert island...pretty flowers, birds, fish etc..

Microserf, I love the boy pointing to the stars or the girl blowing the hearts. beautiful stickers. Oh see I'm torn now, one of those would look fan with blue and white, really fresh and clean. The landlords wont mind me putting one up as they have pretty much said do what you like albeit at your own cost.

But then I have red gingham, beach hut stripes and shaker style hearts/bunting etc in my head too. I cant separate them out in my mind. more ideas people please so I can really decide.

My kids have spent very little time in their bed rooms right up until teenage years, so I'm really not sure of the point of decorating children's rooms with a fancy theme. I'm not sure they notice to be honest!

If you fancy doing it for your own enjoyment go for it, just don't expect your child to appreciate it.

If the room needs painting I would just pick a colour and paint it. Otherwise I would spend more time and money on the family areas where you all spend more time.

Oh its totally for my enjoyment I agree, DD will have a play area in the new house so her room is soley for sleeping/reading. She's notoriously bad sleeper too so I was looking for blue and white as being a bit calming etc. No toys in her room as she'd be awake playing.
As it stands the room is terrible looking with big chintzy yellow flowers so I need to do the walls magnolia/cream but I also want her to have her own defined space.

Have found similiar stickers on ebay so may do blue and white and get a big sticker for impact. The house is likely to be ours for around 8 years and so I want to make it as homely as I can whilst I'm in it.
