Oak flooring

So my research tells me that real wood is better than laminate, engineered wood more hardwearing than regular wood, and that kahrs do the best engineered flooring.

Now, since this is not the forever home and don't want to go top range, which other engineered wood floor would you recommend? I gather b&q is at the bottom end, but don't want to compromise on quality.

Well as you are not staying I would try and go for middle ground cost wise. We in our first house used laminate(very new then) it was cold and very noisy and lacked depth(colour wise). So after this used wood from pine(stained & varnished) to the house we now live in and used Sydney Blue Gum( i currently live in oz) so would prefer wood at all options.
You can fill wood if a problem occurs, re sand and varnish etc and it looks truthfully more expensive. I know the new laminates are much better quality now but in all honesty wood is soo much nicer and if you look around for bargains on ebay or auctions you might get a better bargain.

Indeed, I am just trying to find out what that middle ground is exactly! :o

Have you got a budget?, work out costs of laminate, wood or engineered, if you are not staying go for the price that doesn't scare you! You truthfully can get good quality laminate and save your budget for the forever home.
Measure it and balance quotes or costs(remember installation if not doing it yourselves and underlay), look out for sales or check online for offers.

Aw thanks, indeed I need to look for the deals out there. What's the going rate for engineered, brushed oiled oak? Ive found £32 per square metre, is this good?

I had a noisy online as currently in oz!! Oiled oak sounds nice, the very light wood shows all the dust & dirt, like bloody tumble weeds and the dogs used to slip on the laminate like a scene from scooby doo.
I think medium coloured oak is a nice balance of colour without offending anyone( for future house sale) the websites below looked a lot cheaper than the 32 (sorry no pound signs) and its worth getting good underlay.
