Engineered wood flooring in kitchen?

Currently have Amtico (fitted fairly recently by previous owners) which I have grown to love due to it's amazing dirt hiding properties

Kitchen extension is being built at the moment and possible plan is to put engineered wood floor (lacquered finish) into the new room (kitchen / diner).

If we keep the Amtico there'll be a small height difference (1-2cm) between old and new floors and the practical and aesthetic issues of joining the 2 floors.

Wood throughout will probably look smoother and will avoid step issues, but will it get wrecked in a busy kitchen area and is it crazy to get rid of such new Amtico?

All opinions / experience would be appreciated.

We have an engineered oak floor in our kitchen and running through into the next room. It is completely brilliant and I love it - it's been down for 18 months and looks fab. It doesn't stain or mark (apparently the only thing that you need to be careful of it curry - turmeric will stain it) and I mop it with a moistening of this stuff which smells divine

No idea but I am glad you love your Amtico - I am thinking of getting it in my hall but it is SO much more expensive than other types of flooring that I am stalling!

Tumeric stains but light seems to remove it from wood - within 48 hrs!

If you love the anitico why don't you just continue it - get a dividing bar between the two areas.

I prefer wood - amtico looks a bit fake.

we have engineered oak throughout the downstairs inc kitchen and agree it is fab. Seems to get better if anything - been down about 3 years. recommend a hardwax oil finish if you have a choice - v hardwearing.

What's the advantage of wood over Amtico? Other than being more natural and nicer...

For flooring is your choice basically cheap laminate, expensive real wood or engineered wood in the middle?

Engineered wood is the same price or more expensive than solid wood. It's harder wearing so lasts longer. Amtico is very good quality lino as far as I know

You do not want a 2cm step in the middle of your kitchen diner unless you want a frequent flyer card at your local a&e and hate your crockery.

I have had engineered wood in a kitchen; was beautiful and also surprisingly comfy underfoot.
