Our hallway is beige carpet and looks awful, I don't want to replace with more carpet. It was stained when we moved in but with kids/pets I want a flooring that is easy to clean. Under the carpet there are floorboards, do I sand and varnish these or lay tiles on top of the wood? I have a limited budget so will be doing the work myself.
