Help me decide what color to paint my bedroom!

That's basically it. :)

It's a very small room, so I would shy away from dark colors that would make it seem smaller. The trim is white. The walls (right now) are some horrible gray-ish lavender with a wallpaper border of lilacs. Hmm It was there when we moved in.

I like the idea of a soft gray, but our bed is a very dark wood (espresso) and I don't think it would go. The carpet is a cream color, but will be coming up at some point. (Gorgeous original hardwood under there somewhere!)

So, ideas?

I usually start with the curtains/textiles and work from there. Are there any curtains or do you intend to get any?

How about a pale sage green - green is very calming so perfect for inducing sleep. You could soften up the bed with soft throws and muted creams/greens/greys and add a bit of vintage Wink with some pinky rose tints.....will go and have a look...........

vintageteacups · 09/04/2011 23:10

kinda like this but obviously your bed is darker

vintageteacups · 09/04/2011 23:11

or this sort of thing

10 of the best bedroom colour schemes

Oooh, I really like that first one vintage . I'm looking for something calm but still comfortable IYSWIM? I don't like the ultra-modern totally spare look, but I do like things to be uncluttered.

Lequeen I want to paint the bed but DH is against it. He so very rarely vetoes anything that it's hard to put up an argument...that may be his strategy, come to think of it. Hmm I think I'm going to have to have my lovely pale gray scheme in another room. Sigh...

Good ideas! Thanks!

Whatswrong we don't have curtains yet, just some horrid blinds that came with the house. We will be needing a new duvet cover too, and I was thinking of just a plain white one.

I've just redecorated our bedroom in pale and mid bluey-greys with darker bluey-greys, white and silver accessories. I love it. I think if you painted your bed it would give you more options. Why doesn't your dh want to paint it?!

overmydeadbody · 10/04/2011 17:22

CheerfulYank it's gotta be white, there is no better colour for bedroom walls than white.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 10/04/2011 18:19

That housetohome site is full of lovely ideas.

I share your pain re your DH refusing to paint the bed - mine has a thing that if something's made of stripped pine it has to be left 'to show the wood' - never mind that the last thing the Victorians intended was for pine to be on view!

But I've broken him done the bedside tables and he likes them - I will get the night cupboard painted! Try breaking him down showing him lots of gorgeous painted bed images - it's not compulsory to leave wooden things au naturel.

CheerfulYank · 10/04/2011 20:10

I do like white overmydeadbody but the trim is already white, and I think white on white would be too much.

He says he likes the bed as it is. It's literally the only thing he's ever expressed an opinion on as far as decorating goes, so I'm not going to push. Grr.
