Survey problem - help!

Hi, our mortgage lender is doing the usual survey and we paid to upgrade to a home buyer's survey.

To my intense annoyance, it seems to be impossible to communicate with the surveyor or even establish whether his report will be addressed to us!!! If it isn't addressed to us, it is basically worth nothing.

Is this usual? the mortgage broker told me to ask the vendor's agent to ask the surveyor to get in touch with me, but for FFS, surely if I am paying a stupidly large sum of money for a survey, why can't I do this myself? the vendor's agents are being a complete pain in the arse about everything, and have already cocked up our offer. they're also really suspicious about everything we suggest.

How irritating! If you have paid the extra then the surveyor is acting for you AND the mortgage company. Have you called the lender directly? Your mortgage broker sounds rather lazy - he should sort that out or at least put you in touch with the surveyor.

If the report isn't addressed to you, it is completely legally useless. You might as well pay for your own surveyor separately. But, surveyors can quite easily produce a survey addressed to the buyer and the mortgage company so try giving the broker another kick or calling the bank directly.... Good luck!

We received a call from the surveyor prior to the survey to get payment (as we pay them directly, not the bank), they sent confirmation of our order and then forwarded all the papers to us, including an extra copy for our solicitor. I'm pretty sure that's the normal process.

Has the survey been done yet?

ooh, late response from me here. i ended up hiring my own surveyor, and i was really pleased with the result. i am really glad i did it - cost a little more, but gave me great peace of mind.
