Hi,

We are looking to refurbish some existing good quality solid wood units (probably £££ about 10 years ago by previous owner), and replace some others with roughly matching units. We have had a look around Magnet/Ikea etc, but it seems daft to rip out good joinery to replace with less good MDF style units. So we're looking for someone to design and supply a solid wood painted/paintable kitchen for the half of the kitchen that really doesn't work, design wise. We'll also be getting new tiles and worktops throughout to bring it all together.

We're in N Surrey - looking for recommendations for suppliers - Surrey/Berkshire/Hampshire/SW London preferably. To give you an idea of the style we like - currently lusting after John Lewis of Hungerford's artisan kitchen, and also the new Fired Earth Bastide and New England ranges.

Ideally, we'd like to support a small local company rather than a big chain. Also, because we're trying to be thrifty-ish, we'd like one which won't turn their noses up at someone whose budget is less than £30k....

Many thanks.

Good choice to go for the solid wood, quality always pays and they last forever. When we were living in France we had one put into a house and they made it from scratch, it was amazing and only cost 15000 Euros at the time which was like 10K pounds then. It was a big selling point when we sold the house, and we were lucky enough to buy another place with a solid wood kitchen too!

I have a feeling my Mum might know somewhere, I'll ask her and let you know (we're in Greater London)....

Thank you both! I will look for handmade kitchens, and if your mum knows somewhere, stikmatix, that'd be fab.
