For the builders and do you provide biscuits/cake? Do you provide choc biscuits or jut plain old digestives? Smile

Whenever I've got the kettle on. Which is probably about 6 times a day. Whatever biscuits I've got in, although I have to confess they don't appear 6 times day - & are generally something boring in the hope that DD doesn't attempt to eat them all in one go.

FriskyMare · 30/03/2011 15:06

Depends on how long the job is, how many builders and how pleasant they are. I once found I was making teas/coffees for nine whilst having the loft converted but also had a builder make me tea and toast a few years ago!! Would stick to one lot of plain biscuits a day - helps keep them sweet!

Beanbeany · 30/03/2011 15:09

Haven't got much experience of this - mostly just had kitchen and bathroom and rewiring kind of stuff done and a good few years ago now - but I provided a kettle, mugs, tea and coffee for them to help themselves. Maybe depends on whether they can easily do for themselves. And choccy biscuits if they graft hard, value digestives if not!

Beanbeany · 30/03/2011 15:11

I mean, whether they'll have access to a place to make tea that doesn't involve them traipsing in and out of your kitchen!

Just finished with builders here and I seemed to make them loads of tea and they never ever refused. The builders were fab though.

Generally if I was at home I made them tea probably every 2 hours or so. (Am I an idiot?) So probably between 4 and 6 times a day. After a couple of weeks I stopped asking them if they'd like tea and just made it. I put biscuits in a tupperware tub and just kept replenishing it for them. The DCs refrred to this tub as The Builders Biscuits. The choc biscuits never lasted long though. Hobnobs, digestives, that kind of thing, especially if on BOGOF.

We had a whole team (seemed like millions) so I just showed them where everything was and said help yourself. Sometimes I'd get bikkies but not all the time. Their apprentce used to brew up for them and would usually make me one too. If it was just one or two then I'll do it if I'm having a cuppa, otherwise tell them to help themselves in between.

notquitenormal · 30/03/2011 15:33

All the jobs we've ever had done the tradesmen (invariably middle-aged and pot bellied) drank only bottled water they brought with them & refused all offers food and drink. They didn't stop once for anything.

Most odd.

GrendelsMum · 30/03/2011 15:57

They might get tea made once or twice a day if I'm in a good mood, but they are at liberty to use our kettle.

Our team bring their own milk (organic) and tea bags

fedupandfifty · 31/03/2011 20:19

I Always make tea for own builders and next door's, with all the gubbins. I think it pays to keep in with one's builders - I once made the unforgiveable mistake of giving a cup of Lapsang Souchong to a builder by mistake and it was the talk of the pub for ages afterwards!

Pinkcushion · 31/03/2011 23:48

Made some lovely gingerbread and liberally handed it out - was most offended that they thought it was Soreen - will be buying Rich Tea for them in punishment and keeping the homemade cakes to ourselves - cheeky buggers! Grin

I am doing one when they get in and left them a kettle, tea and coffee and biscuits to help themselves to. Occasional cake too. that way they can just get on with it all at their own pace and they don't feel that I am constantly interrupting them.
Mind you, they can manage a packet of biscuits a day Hmm

teta · 01/04/2011 09:02

I do one brew in the morning and one in the afternoon- though if desperate builder will usually knock on my study window and start gesticulating.I don't leave biscuits out any more as they never got eaten.

ChupaChups · 01/04/2011 09:31

I would offer tea every 2 to 3 hours and leave the biscuit tin with them.

XP was a decorator and often came home complaining he only got offered one or two cups of tea a day, and even worse, no biscuits!!! It pays to keep in with your tradesmen, believe me! You don't want to be referred to as that lazy bitch at number 37!

MummyBerryJuice · 01/04/2011 09:48

I offer when they come in and then as often as I have myself. If I'm not in I leave stuff out for them. Biscuits are a bit hit and miss Blush depends on whether I have any in.

Aworryingtrend · 01/04/2011 10:09

We are out all day so I leave tea coffee milk and sugar and packets of choc biscuits out and just tell them to help themselves. They haven't taken the P* at all and even bought their own milk when we were running low one day. I lurve my kitchen fitter.

Thandeka · 02/04/2011 14:11

Oi I'm not that lazy chuba chups! Friend has a theory #37 comes up more often than normal- possibly agreeing now.
