Moving from England to Scotland & Lawyers

Can anyone who has moved house from Scotland to England (and survived Wink )confirm for me what you did regarding lawyers, please? Did you use one for each transaction or have one lawyer who could deal with both legal systems? I'm wondering if it would be faster/cheaper/less of a pain in the bottom to find one lawyer for the conveyancing at both ends of the move. Hmm

We did many moons ago and used 2, it seemed quicker at the time. but you could search for a lawyer who perhaps uses both systems? good luck

We did a few years ago and were advised to have 2 separate lawyers, one at each end and it definitely was the way to go. Even though some of the big firms have people qualified to do english & scottish transactions if they are not used to dealing with these transactions they can mess it up quite easily. You shouldn't pay any extra for having 2 solicitors. Just be warned do not try and complete both transactions on the same day! We were lucky that we planned to have a few days between but some friends were not so lucky. They had a removal van packed, travelled & waiting on the drive of their new house but the funds had not cleared so the purchase was delayed by a day!

We had 2 separate solicitors as well.

We had a complete nightmare though partly due to the differences in the 2 systems, we accepted an offer on our flat, buyer seemed very keen came round with his family measuring up for furniture etc was 1st time buyer very keen to move so we found a house in Scotland we like and had an offer accepted. English buyer basically pulled out at the 11th hour leaving us high and dry, we coulnd't complete on our other house and had to pay fees which were our vendors mortgage plus a half again for 3 months. Was a horrendous time.

Your going the opposite way so you should be fine.
