Design idea for fencing off large patio?

Thinking about fencing off the patio that extends for the full length of the house, to prevent our gorgeous new puppy getting into danger in the garden all the time - if I'm not following right behind him - and also destroying the planting.

I need ideas for some kind of barrier - perhaps decorative trellis with 'window circles' or something - that will allow us still to have a garden view, minimise blocking out the sun but will give the puppy free run of the patio (and a small part of the lawn at the edge of the house).

Would wrought iron work? Has anyone else got anything like this in their garden and what might you suggest that enhances rather than destroys the garden design?

I would probably use something very temporary (some stakes with chicken wire across them) until the puppy is trained. I think fenced off patios look wrong - they are meant to offer an area from which to enjoy and survey the rest of the garden and should open onto it. At most, a low wall - maybe 60cm high - rendered possibly for crisp modern look, at boundary with garden and hollow at top to act as planter and then simply put a gate in the opening onto the garden until your puppy is trained.
