yesterday the hook thing that pulls the flush up broke, so we replaced it, anyway shortly after the whole of the plastic tanky thing (can you trell I know what I am talking about) broke off, cant work out how it should be attached to the bpottom of the cistern. Is this something I can work out or do I need to get a plumber out?

Google for instructions. You can probably DIY it if you are really keen.

I would be tempted to go out and buy a whole new cistern since two bits have broken in quick succession - and the new one will come with instructions. I don't think they are particularly demanding - but it may depend on how you can turn off the water before disconnecting as to whether you need a plumber. As a rule of thumb the older it is the more tricky it is likely to be.

there is a stop tap just for toilet, have turned it off already, now have bucket, very sophisticated. think I need to work out how to remove cistern first and take it from there.
