please tell me Im not the only one!

We bought our lovely flat 8 years now,we moved in as a newly engaged couple, but now 8 years later and 2 ds we are still here!!

It was fine for a couple or even with a baby but def not with two kids.

We didnt really mean to stay in it this long but due to dh job etc we have.

So,6 mths ago we decided we really must do something and secured quite a large extension to our mortgage, allowing us to buy a nice, big family home in our area.

so far we have missed out on 2 houses and nothing seems to have come on market since,Is it just sods law that now we can move there's nothing we like?

I feel slighty obsessed and feel like Im constantly looking on property websites hoping something will come along.

Should I forget about it and let something come our way or keep actively persuing it?

I'm still looking at RM every chance I have and our offer on a house we love has been accepted and progressing along... Grin

Don't worry about missing out. We put in a few offers on different places before we got a real feel of how much properties are worth in the area (which is a lot! Confused). Something will come on... Have you thought about leafleting an area you like or something like that?

We moved into our current house as a couple too and now 2 DSs later, the 2-bedder is starting to feel really quite cramped! Good luck. :)

Thanks, just feel like nothing ever comes up for sale that we love, but will keep positive!

I know this sounds like a cliche and a bit cheesy but after watching comic relief last night it makes me realise how lucky I am to have a roof over my head at all.

lilaloves I know exactly what you mean? I can't believe I'm stressing about moving from a 2-bedder to a 4-bedder when people are suffering when they are on Comic Relief and in Japan. :( We are very lucky indeed.

The situation in Japan is so Sad.

Over the last while I've been adding to my "House Fund" for buying new interior bits and pieces/decoration for our hypothetical new home, when it comes along.

We have lots of lovely "things" already.
I'm going to donate some of this money to charity I think.

We had exactly the same problem in September 2009, at that time anything nice in our area was going to sealed bids. We wrote a note and dropped it into about 30 houses we really liked, had 3 replies and ended up buying one - which is perfect. Why not have a go?

lilaloves · 19/03/2011 11:20

Hi,when you say 30 houses you liked, were they for sale?

I think iT also depends where you live.

We live it a smallish city in Scotland,In the area we live in and want to remain in,I would be lucky to see 30 properties a year that we would like and were suitable.

There isnt a huge choice therefore everything is v overpriced and underoffer in a matter of days.

There is a huge demand but very little supply.

But anythings worth a try.
Im not sure how it would work here as Scottish laws uses the offers over system, where if a houses is on at offers over 400 thousand it can go for up to 450,you dont get too see what others bid,so i suppose this is sealed bids.

No they weren't for sale, I picked three streets and posted letters threw their doors, we arranged a private sale - it never went on the market.

I am waiting on a sealed bid at the moment it closes in 1 week and 4 days (not counting down or anything!) if we don't get that don't know what we will do as nothing else suits. Saw a terrible house today that smelt of wee! Might try the letter drop thing as well.
