Is it besttow ait til planning permission granted before incurring Party wall costs?

Just curious as we just applied for planning permission on extension which will take 2mths to go through, but our neighbour has initiated Party Wall procedure.

We were not going to do Party Wall Notice etc until permission granted to avoid incurring any expenditure until we had more certainty with Council approval. But by delaying are we just wasting time? Should we just go ahead and start Party Wall Notice given neighbour has already indicated that she will object to extension so award and Council approval are likely to be long winded.

Any advice?

I think it is always best to keep neighbours in the loop regarding extensions etc but unless you are planning to start the work the moment consent comes through, there is no need to start party wall negotiations until 8 weeks before work starts. Is she doing work as well otherwise I don't understand how she can initiate party wall procedure without your having served the papers and plans first.

If she is one of the people who objects to planning consent on principle, then I'm afraid she could make the party wall award very drawn out and expensive...

Thanks for your response, that's really helpful. We have kept neighbour informed of plans and so far it has been amicable. But recently she has been quite aggressive and then we just received this from her v. expensive surveyor demanding plans etc. We found it strange too as she is not having any building work done! She has a history of campaigning against neighbours so we suspected she would make it difficult for us, sigh. Maybe we should take our time
