How much to fix a door frame?

The door handle on my daughter's bedroom door broke while she was in there and we ended up having to kick the door in. The door survived but the door frame broke, with one of the long sides coming away from the wall.

This was in a rented property and the landlord has apparently been quoted £300 to have it fixed, to come out of our deposit. We're in London, but this seems ridiculously expensive, or am I just being naive?

well to replace the whole door casing would probably cost £70-£120 depending on the size of the casing (materials and labour). then there is painting and making good which depends on the quality of the existing decor so worst case scenario should be around the £200 mark.

In practice I suspect the joiner would just refix the leg of the casing and give it a lick of paint for about £80 or so in London

That's more like what I thought. And given they have a friend that's a builder who's in the house doing work anyway I was thinking £50 might be nearer the mark. I really don't have the energy to get into a debate about it, but also can't afford to just throw that money away when I think they're trying it on a bit.
