I have a 4 bed house to decorate .
Every room needs doing , but i dont have a clue as whats naff or whats in at the moment.
I desperately need help with ideas.
Kitchen has white gloss units .
Living room has light oak fire surround . Apart from this all rooms are a blank canvas.

Not really keen on bright colours or garish walpaper.

Yes, different woods will go together. Thick luxurious curtains with wooden floors is my favourite look! I'm sure it will be fab!

Actually, almost everything you like will go with almost everything else you like. It a really amazing thing but your own taste will actually unite a look.

I work with interior designers but I think that almost no-one needs one, they just need a friend to encourage them in their own taste.

The hall contains the staircase.

Unfortunately it isnt a grand sweeping stair with lovely balastraide, but walled on both sides with very very high celling.

Quite miserable little banister attached to one wall , and a halfway landing where the stairs turn in direction.

It does have 2 massive windows so loads of daylight.

If it's got massive windows then you could major on those with curtains and use small wall lights going up the stairs.

I love those long dangly light in tall staircases though, like chandeliers but vertical IYKWIM. Could that work?

Alternatively, if it does feel too tall and thin you can paint it in bands. Ie one colour to first landing, and different from there.

I have gorgeous think lined velvety curtains from laura ashley, I heart them lots and they add colour and pattern to a plain room.

Do you guys have pool houses in Scotland? Wow!

LemonDifficult · 07/03/2011 22:47

Oh yes, pool houses aplenty. Though mine's really more of a pool complex.

So while the pool house and ajoining bar is one issue, there's also the changing suite for the indoor sauna to consider. I tell you, it's just a constant struggle.

Would love one though. Smile

Well, really, how much do you actually use the helipad? Could you stick one over that?

I still think plain well painted walls with big artworks looks great.Simple sculptural light fittings and plain white linen roman blinds with more statement curtains over the top.A big soft rug aswell and maybe some large vases with tall flowers.Looks elegant and together but not such a scheme that you can't organically add pieces to it over time.
