Can we use wooden door bars with carpet?

We're having new carpet fitted in one of the bedrooms and I'm not keen on the shiny metal door threshold bars/strips. They look a bit cheap and modern.

Would a wooden version work ok with carpet?
Any ideas where to get one from?

Real oak floors co.uk sell hardwood strips and other bits.I have oak strips for carpet one side and wood/tiles the other side and they work fine but they came with the house.I also hate the cheap and nasty metal ones Pannacotta.Grendelsmum i have also totally had it with building works that started in September!.Apparently our kitchen is going to be totally out of action for 3 weeks [ with 4 dc's!].I am currently feeling quite murderous to my builder.

I've got a wooden one going from my tiled bathroom to the carpetted hallway. It's lovely

I have no idea where my builder got it from though! Sorry not very helpful!

We have that in all of our rooms. Was here when we moved in though. I guess a joiner could sort it out for you.

We are going room by room as I couldnt face having a big project on the go, but it wont be fun when it comes to the kitchen. teta can you rig up a temporary kitchen?

I'm not sure if it would work or not, but we have wooden bars over the threshold between wooden flooring and just bought them from a normal wood/ laminate flooring shop

Thanks for that - it's literally something I've been wondering about in the last couple of days, now that one room reaches vague completion.

I sympathise, Teta. No kitchen is grim - do you know someone with a camping stove you can borrow? We found it made all the difference to have my parent's camping kitchen, which included a two-ring gas stove, plus water 'on tap'.

Pannacotta - how's it going? Did you make a decision on the kitchen?

Things here are going so slowly - the lime plaster refuses to dry, and things are grinding to a halt until it does. The plasterers appear, traipse dust through the house, prod it and say 'not dry yet', and then disappear for another few days. On the plus side, we have a new decorator who is hilariously perfectionist. He's clearly horrified by the rooms I've decorated myself.

We have them, but they were here when we moved in. They do look so much better than the metal ones, and we get a lot of positive comments about them.
