Painting skirting/ceilings throughout house

It's been suggested to me that it's a good idea to use the same colour for skirting boards/ceilings throughout a house to get a feeling of coherence. Do you agree, or if the hall was going to be say, F&B Elephant's Breath and the living room was going to be Pavilion Gray, should I pick different whites for the skirting/ceilings to best complement the different tones?

Think I may actually have gone a bit mad looking at colour cards.

Do you have cornicing?

I'm not sure it's good to paint the ceiling and cornicing in the same shade, although it can look cool if also painted the same as walls (but this is definitely a 'look').

I paint skirts and ceiling both trade white if they'll need to be repainted frequently, but 'pointing' for skirting is a lovely colour if you're going F&B.

If you look on the F&B wensite there's quite an interesting neutral scheme with the woodwork in Slipper Satin and the ceiling in White Tie the staircase one

Thanks for the reply. No cornicing. The ceiling curves down to a picture rail in some rooms. What do you think about using the same colour for skirting in every room when the wall colours are different?

Unless your house is massive, I'd go for skirts the same colour all the way around to increase 'flow', especially if walls are in different shades.

If you have several different floors you could change the woodwork colour on each floor.

Coloured woodwork is really fashionable at the moment though, and can look really cool as well as authentic. What's the house like?

I'd go for the same colour simply to save on money... Buy in bulk!

And also you are never ever going to remember which shade went in which room when it comes to redecorating or touching up.

defintiely white everywhere regardless of wall colours.All F abd B look good against dulux trade eggshell! I agree that some f abd b colours really work well together but if you want continuity and you tend to get bored with 'schemes' stick to white

Thanks for all the replies. Was definitely going for some kind of white on all the skirting. I'm just looking at all the F&B white shades thinking 'Pavilion Gray is a cooler grey than Elephant's Breath - do I need wimborne white with one and slipper satin with the other?' Aggghhh! In the end it's all white, innit?! Have definitely been thinking about this for too long!

LemonDifficult: It's a 1930 semi. 'Flow' - that is the word I was looking for!

Another question - I really love the F&B colours, but will Modern Emulsion stand up to a slightly careless family inc 2 wild small boys? Or should I be asking the man in the paint shop to colour match with Crown scrubbable flat matt?

Modern emulsion and my boys don't particularly go, I'm afraid. I'm reluctantly colour matching, I think.
