Bungalows and adding second floor.

Out of sheer curiosity, how easy or not would be adding a second floor to a bungalow, in respect to both planning permission (I know, varies) and labor/cost?
It's 'piece of string' question, clearly, but hoping someone would humor me anyway.
Many thanks in advance.

Yes it is possible. We did this by adding new higher roof- cost approx 60000- took 4 months and we didn't move out of our house.

Planning was straight forward.Added 2 big bedrooms another bathroom and lots of storage.

Remember to factor money in for merging the new floor and the existing floor - we had to change all the woodwork doors skirtings etc so it all matched up.Now no one would ever guess it was once a single story bungalow.

Thank you, lucyspangle!
Was wondering if it would be easier to get planning permission in the rural area that in village situation?
