Bedside table-but-not-a-table solutions?

I have a new bed with a divan base and drawers, and can't really access two of the drawers without moving my heavy bedside tables which is a PITA.

Hate the bedside tables anyway (horrible rattan things) so in the market for something new which lets me get to the drawers.

I was thinking small shelves, but DH thinks it might look too 80s. Any thoughts or alternatives?

I was going to suggest floating shelves. Not at all 80's IMHO.

I saw a picture once of floating shelves above the bed which looked really stylish.

It kept the sides of the bed free so access to the divan-drawers was easy.

Drat, I was going to suggest floating shelves too or you can get these little box things from Ikea kitchen department (basically a wall-hung square with a door at the front) which could look really nice.

Why are shelves 80s Confused?
