Giving notice to landlord

I can't manage to find my lease contract at the moment Blush but we're currently on a rolling month by month agreement.

Am I right in thinking that you normally give notice on the date you signed, so for us this would be the 15th of the month?

We're due to complete on the 16th March although don't have date for exchange yet - is that normal?

But we accept we'll have a month overlap but don't want any more than that.

Thanks in advance.

If it were one of my tenants, I would appreciate notice asap so if you know that you are moving out on a particular date then tell them as soon as that is confirmed. If it is less than a month's notice then you will have to pay the full month but I don't think it matters if that date tallies with the day of the month you moved in (wouldn't to me, anyway as the rent can be calculated day by day).

You can give notice when you like, but it must be at least a month before you want to leave, and generally your tenancy must end at the end of a rental cycle.

So if you gave notice any time between now (23rd Feb) and 15th March, then the end of your tenancy would be 15th April. If you gave notice any time between 16th March - 14th April, end of tenancy would be 15th May.

Your landlord will appreciate knowing as soon as possible.

(the standard contract I was on said it must end at the end of a full rental cycle, but as lala says if you ask nicely it might not have to)

Thanks! Our landlord has been uttterly nightmarish so not pre-disposed to give them more than the legal notice to be honest.

For example, stuff they promised would be fixed last July is still waiting to be done so will be very glad to leave here.
