MIL hates where she lives and has high service charges.
Our house is a little too small, one bedroom and reception room missing IMO but has been extended to within an inch of it's life and would exceed the ceiling price for the road if we did any more to it.

So the master plan is MIL has given us £15k to finish our house off which is very nice but she's done it so her problem becomes our problem, ie once she's sold her own property she won't be able to afford anything else because we have all her savings iyswim, so I figured we would finish this house and then rent it out to her (much reduced) for the rest of her natural and pay off the mortgage as fast as possible.
This would free me up to try different areas to live in without committing, to rent a better house than we could ever afford to buy and if it all didn't work out we could add the loft conversion and extension and move back in.

Any obvious flaws I am missing ?

Thanks

She could live for a loooooooong time?

You may end up living with your MIL

Oh no If I moved back in she'd be moving out into a rental flat that I'd pay for. She's a miserable bastard so that would not be allowed to happen.
She's 70 and not in the best of health Wink

What would happen if she needed to go into a care home within 7 years, would they have a claim on her share of your house?

I'll check that out, thanks.
