My worktops are looking a bit sad - haven't kept up the maintenance and round the sink they have dark patches. I have some oil to treat them but can I resand them and with what?

Assuming they're wooden then yes you can but it won't get the dark patches out.

If they're oak - the dark patched can be the tannings in the timber reacting with the water. You can bleach this out with oxalic (sp)acid. Google it as I've no idea where you get it. And then you can re-finish it.

oxalic acid crystals work well on dark patches - you can get it on ebay if you cant get it at your local ironmongers
