Hello everyone. I'm not sure whether this is the right place to post but I was wondering whether there are any landlords out there who can help!
Basically me and my partner are renting a house at the moment but our landlady is selling up so we have been given 8 weeks notice (though this is a bit flexible because she has no buyer yet). We are having huge problems in finding somewhere new to rent because we have two dogs and also because we were voluntarily declared bankrupt in April last year (we were self employed and had a pub that sucked all our funds). Every time we find a house that accepts dogs we get turned down even before the referencing process in favour of people who aren't bankrupt (which seems a bit mad to me because being bankrupt means that we are actually debt free now and well able to pay our rent). I think that this is partly because we are going through agents and don't get to speak with the landlord directly (can't find any privately rented properties).
This is so frustrating because we really are excellent tenants but on paper I know we look totally unappealing! We have rented together for over 10 years and have never missed or been late with our rent. Though we have dogs we have always looked after our rented properties and I have always worked hard to make them look nice and keep them clean and tidy (indeed our current landlady has suggested that she will release our deposit early to help us out). We have excellent references from our landlords but because of the bankruptcy thing the potential new landlord never gets to see this because we seem to be refused at the first hurdle (even though we have suggested that we pay a higher deposit etc..).
Just been refused another house today because we were in competition with another couple and am really beginning to panic. I just know that we will end up having to rent somewhere awful that nobody else wants which seems really unfair given that we are able to pay the rent and take pride in where we live.
I know that this is probably a very longshot but are there any landlords out there who have a 2/3 bed (pref character) house to rent in Surrey/Bucks with garden for the doggles priced up to £1000 PCM that they would be willing to at least discuss renting to bankrupts? We are a professional couple. My fiance is an Asbestos Consultant.
