Is this insane price for painting?

I live in a medium sized Victorian semi in sw London and have been given a quote to paint downstairs (large kitchen, double reception) and hallways, stairways and 2 landings. Woodwork downstairs included but nothing above ground floor.

Walls are in good condition - a few small cracks but nothing major.

Quote was £8700! Including VAT and dulux paint

Any ideas how much this should cost?

ask for the quote to be broken down
i.e. how many men for how many hours and how much is allocated to paint and other materials - then you can see if they are taking the piss -

They said it would take 4-6 weeks. Not sure how many men though...

I'm fairly sure my sister paid a lot less than that to have her front door and hallways painted, including all the woodwork.

She's in SE London - I can ask her how much and who she used if you like?
