I am falling in love with my pretend gas fires.

We had a real open fire at out last house. When we moved here I was bit sneery about the gas fires they had installed - the ones that try to look like real ones and we decided to take them out and open up the real fire places. But.....I have the gas fire burning in the dining room atm and it's really quite nice. I haven't had to fight with ash and plead with the kindling to light or hold paper over the front to make it burn up......

This one has white sort of pebble things in it - why anyone would want to burn pebbles I don't know. The other one has 'coal' in it.

Am torn now. Would you take a gas fire out to make room for a real one or is that just a bit precious?

I would take it out Gas is hideously expensive pebbles look daft and you get no crackle!

No crackle, no nice smell when you burn wood and I am having to stop the DC chucking rubbish in it all the time Hmm

I think you are right....

My mum moved into a house years ago and it had one and she had it on all winter she loved it BUT they got a mega bill after xmas which put them off! I have real fires and they are my favourite thing but I do use those easy logs a fair bit the eco ones as they light easily!

Well I reckoned that having a fire going in one room is better than having the CH heating the entire house when no-one is home.
