Boiler in Childs bedroom

We've been renting for 6 months in a new area and have no decided to find a more permanent home here.

We still have to rent and we've found what appears to be a great house for us. We're going to see it later but the details state that what would be dd's bedroom, houses the boiler.

Is that a deal breaker?

Watching with interest to see why it is an issue! It is a bit noisy when the heating is on, but FIL built a cupboard around it so not loud enough to keep her awake...

I don't think it needs to be. The boiler in our house is in a cupboard off my son's bedroom. We ensure it is regularly maintained and have a carbon monoxide detector in there. It doesn't particularly worry me, but then I know that we keep the boiler maintained. The landlord should have a gas safety certificate, so you may want to have sight of that.

I wouldn't want a boiler in my bedroom because of the noise but, providing that it has been correctly installed and maintained, it shouldn't be a safety issue

I'd buy the best CO detector I could find for sure and insist on a proper up to date Corgi registered gas certficate.

Make sure it is battery operated one too - not one of those strips that change colour.

there's one in our DD's bedroom too. Not ideal and I was uneasy about it to begin with but have got used to it (and is serviced regularly & battery carbon monoxide detector). When (if) we have some money and extend the kitchen we will move it downstairs. It is a bit noisy but she's a VERY heavy sleeper

Hmmm you've confirmed by feelings. I'm not keen on it but I did think be extra vigilant with a co detector. I did read that it can't be a 'flue appliance' in a bedroom but not sure how best to check.

Amazingly the only person I really know here is my hairdresser, she's just told me that she knows the house owner etc small world.

My dd is a terrible sleeper too so the noise may be a really big factor. I know I'm prob being silly over the carbon monoxide issue but it does make me a little nervous. Glad other people have reassured me. Thanks.

My ds has the boiler in a cupboard in his room, he actually likes the noises it makes says it means there are people in the house. The boiler is serviced by Byways and we have 2 Carbon dioxide monitors, one in the cupboard and one above the cupboard door.

I'd go one more and have a main fitted with battery back up detector.

Thankyou for the feedback. Got to the house and it was great. The boiler was brand new and venting straight outside.

Then went into smallest room and you couldn't even get a toddler bed into it

Gutted cos the garden was almost field like in size! really wanted it. The boiler didn't even bother me in the end. Sods law.

If you are in any doubt make sure that the boiler has a "Gas Safe" certificate supplied, Corgi certifates are not worth anything as this body no longer exists, the landlord MUST have the boiler and flue tested once a year and they MUST legally supply the tenant with a copy. If you are going to fit carbon monoxide/dioxide detectors then fit 2 detectors, one at high level to detect carbon dioxide which is the same weight as air and one at low level to detect carbon monoxide as this gas is heavier than air and will build from the floor upwards.
