I'm not sure which paint to use. Checked the Hammerite website and narrowed it down to their range for "interiors" but still unsure if this would be suitable for a new bedframe - and do not know the exact metal composition, if that's relevant? It's currently a pewter colour and I'd like to paint it cream.

Anyone with experience of this to recommend a paint please? Hammerite don't actually do Cream (only White) anyway!

Can't suggest actual paint but strongly recommend you sand down the frame with wire wool first so the paint has a rough surface to cling to.

Thanks Minipie, but it's new, clean and smooth, so sanding down not needed to get rid of old rusty bits or previous layers of paint and also - and this is me being a bit dense here - if there is a "rough surface for paint to cling to" then surely this will result in a rough finish as well?

You can see I'm not that into DIY can't you?

Must admit I'm not either! But I'm sure I have been told that paint will not stick to a clean smooth surface, it needs a matt texture.

Okay ...... anyone else out there please? I can't be the only DIY metal paint virgin!
