What colour to paint my mantelpiece??

Hello!

We're having a new wood burner installed next week and are redecorating the lounge. We want to keep the current mantelpiece and paint it - it's wood with a fake sort of "antique" stain. It's a nice design though!

I'm really not sure what colour to paint it - the ceiling is going to be white, the walls Timeless (Dulux) - a very pale cream. I initially thought that the mantelpiece should be white but I'm not sure if that would look silly against the pale cream walls.

The curtains are green - I don't really want to have a green mantelpiece...

We don't have any carpet yet, so no idea what colour that will be!

Oh what to do, what to do.

Anyone have any suggestions or ideas for our poor mantelpiece?

I'd keep it dark - if you paint it a pale colour you will hardly notice it once you have a great bit black stove in front of it.
